What is covered in the demonstration/ orientation classes? Why are demonstration/ orientation classes important?
Demonstration classes are provided so that students may have a first-hand experience of classes and have an opportunity to interact with teachers. We encourage prospective students to assess how effective the classes will be for them. We also encourage students to sit through these classes to grasp the standard of expectation of our teachers from students, and to understand that our courses are offered as a primary source of instruction and not as complementary tuition to studies at school.
What are the fee details?
The fee details are provided by our Course Coordinator when prospective students get in touch. Fee payments are made monthly. The students who join from the very beginning of the session are exempted from paying the one-time registration fee.
Are 5–7 months of classes enough to cover the syllabus?
The course duration is perfectly adequate to cover the complete syllabus, as well practise past papers and carry out revision before the final exams. Our teachers conduct each session with a precise plan in accordance with the timetable published by the University of Cambridge for the upcoming exam session. Moreover, our courses are offered as a primary source of instruction and not as complementary tuition to studies at school. The average guided learning hours at The Humanities for a session exceed the instruction time offered at other schools by far.
How can you help me prepare for composite exams/accelerated option/AS and A2 together?
There are separate courses for AS and A Level. Therefore, students can study for AS and A Level components contemporaneously with ease. Additionally, our students enrolled into both courses are provided additional support in case prior AS knowledge is required for A2 classes.
What if I need personalised help with learning? Can you please elaborate how you will accommodate me?
All of our students are encouraged and welcome to reach out to the teachers outside of class time in case they have queries. Moreover, weekly assignments are an opportunity for students to receive detailed feedback on their submissions. Our teaching approach is geared towards individualised learning for each student.
How come you have such great results?
We have the most competent teachers, wonderful students who are invested in their subjects, and a decade long experience in teaching and guiding students through CIEs, leading to exceptional results. Our record holds at more than 50% of our students securing A/A* grades, and more than 70% securing a B grade or above. We have had the privilege of having instructed a total of more than 700 students over the past 9 years.
Who are the teachers for different subjects?
You will find details about our incredible teachers on the website page for teachers.
How will you provide support during final exams?
To ensure that students are fully prepared for the final exams, the complete syllabus for each course is revised, rigorous past paper practice is carried out, and mock exams are conducted. During the exam period, students are offered absolute flexibility in work submissions. We continue to offer guidance to our students all the way till they sit for the final exams.
What is the language of instruction and interaction?
The medium of instruction and interaction is English.
How are the classes conducted? What is the mode of teaching/ learning?
The classes are conducted online via Zoom meetings. Every class is about one hour long.
How do you ensure effective and disciplined learning through online classes?
The classes are interactive and teachers expect constant vigilance from students. Students are required to revise the previous class’ content for each class. Most importantly, our teachers make sure that the class discussions are interesting and engaging for students. Our students’ performance speaks for their attentiveness in classes.
How long do the classes last for? How long are the courses?
There are two sessions conducted each year aligned with the CIEs:
- November to May: for exams in May/ June
- June to October: for exams in October/ November
Classes continue till the students sit for their final exams.
Are your classes for private candidates or school-going students?
Our classes are for private candidates as well as for school-going students. Regardless of the students’ academic situation, our classes are the primary source of instruction for all our students.
What is the class schedule?
There are three weekly classes for each course. Class schedule is set at the beginning of the session at which point the students who have enrolled early on may negotiate the schedule with their teachers.
Are class recordings made available?
Classes are recorded for most courses. Recordings are made available to enrolled students upon request after providing a prior explanation for skipping a class. Recordings are made available as a default for the revision classes in order to help students prepare more effectively and flexibly close to the exam period.
Are past paper discussions carried out in the classes?
Past paper discussions are a crucial part of our classes. In fact, our students start practising papers from the get-go. Past paper questions are discussed in the class, then assigned as weekly tasks, and our teachers provide individual feedback to each student on their submitted work.
Are the classes one-on-one or conducted in batches?
The classes are conducted in batches. However, all of our students are encouraged and welcome to reach out to the teachers outside of class time in case they have queries. Moreover, weekly assignments are an opportunity for students to receive detailed feedback on their submissions. Our teaching approach is geared towards individualised learning for each student.
Why is it more effective to study in a batch as opposed to one-on-one classes?
We believe that studying in a batch provides a more learning-conducive environment where students engage with and learn from each other. Such an environment nurtures healthy competition, provides higher motivation for learning, and offers a criteria for relative self-assessment.
How many students are there in each class/batch?
We have between 5 to 30 students in one batch.
How interactive are the classes?
The classes are fairly interactive. Class interactions can take the form of revision questions at the beginning and end of class, questions about connecting content to other topics in the syllabus, opinion and analysis of topics, debate amongst students, questions for the teacher, etc. We believe that students learn best when they engage with the content.
What are some of the rules for interaction during class?
Class decorum is maintained as followed:
- Students are to join the meeting within the first 5 minutes of receiving notification about the start of class.
- Students are expected to respond to all questions asked by the teacher.
- Students communicate by typing down their answers in the Zoom chat.
- All interactions are candid but respectful.
- Students are not asked to turn on their cameras in class.
- Students are not required to unmute, and may unmute upon request only if they are comfortable speaking up in class.
What kind of tasks are assigned to students?
Most of the weekly tasks are based on past papers that are discussed in class prior to assignment. Some of the tasks are creative activities to engage students more effectively with the syllabus content and to cultivate their interest, which is a significant contributing factor towards our students’ high performance in exams.
What is your policy regarding class presence/absence?
We strongly advise all students to maintain regular attendance. In case a student must skip class, they are required to write and inform their teacher about their absence.
How can I cover the content for classes that I skip?
Students can request lesson recordings prior to skipping a class.
